From July 3rd to 5th, 2018, The Children’s Media Conference (CMC) was held in the British city of Sheffield. China International Cartoon & Animation Festival (CICAF) Office was invited to attend the meeting as a delegation.

Sheffield, located in the heart of Britain, was an industrial base, reputed as the capital of iron and steel. As the birthplace of the world's first football club, it hosted the World Snooker Championship, where Ding Junhui was said to receive training. It is also a university town, and CMC venue was held in the famous Hallam University Town.

CMC is the biggest media event for the children's content industry in Britain. Originating in 2004, it was a part of the Sheffield Youth Film Festival. Since 2010, it has been renamed CMC by non-profit organizations. Since the famous BBC Children's Channel makes annual release and work procurement here in July each year, it has attracted worldwide industry elites, especially those from Europe, and hence become a prestigious annual convention in the industry.

In 2018, the 15th CMC themed with “What’s next”, attracted more than 1,100 professionals from over 10 countries and regions, including Britain, China, the United States, Germany, France, Belgium, India and so on. It was also joined by international brands and enterprises such as BBC, Disney, ITV, Tuner, SkyKIDS, FLIX, DHXMedia, Nicklodeon, FingerINDUSTRIES and so on.

The organizers held a variety of activities around this open theme, attracting the UK's most creative ideas and the latest IPs to be developed.

In this year’s CICAF, CMC organized 10 well-known British enterprises to participate in business conferences and other activities. Their visit to Hangzhou left them a deep impression and valuable resources. Therefore, at the opening ceremony of the 2018 CMC, the organizers gave a ceremonious introduction to the CICAF delegation and held a "China Theme Day", which included:

Special Discussion

The participants discussed how to cooperate deeply with China around the theme of “focus on working with China panel”. The organizers invited CICAF’s frequenter, eOne general manager Oliver Dumont and Department of International Trade content creativity expert Tony, to share successful cases including Peppa Pig.

Special Session Talks

It arranged special sessions of one-on-one talks for eight businesses from China, which attracted attendees to make appointments in advance and participate enthusiastically.

Host-guest Communication

CICAF representatives and CMC organizers had further communications on deeper cooperation between the two sides. CMC would continue to organize British latest original IPs and most popular animated films to participate in CICAF. CICAF would recommend quality buyers and experienced companies to make co-productions with British peers, and help British children’s films and television works accessible to the Chinese market.
